Nepal in Data is a data and statistics platform created by Bikas Udhyami, a social innovation hub, to make development data and statistics about Nepal public and accessible to a wide audience from 1950 to the present. During this phase, the portal will serve as a single point of entry for users to access, engage with, compare, and utilize data and statistics on various aspects of Nepal's development. Later on, it plans to establish itself as a self-sustaining think tank that generates and disseminates evidence-based policy information.

Nepal has a long history and has undergone several changes since becoming a democracy in the 1950s. Simultaneously, the country faces numerous development difficulties, including those relating to poverty, governance, economic development, the environment, access to justice, and gender and social inclusion. It is, however, difficult to keep track of Nepal's growth trajectory and progress toward development outcomes. While a large quantity of data and statistics are generated, the majority of the data and statistics are difficult to obtain and utilize, and are not in accessible format.

There is no central place where data and statistics on different sectors can be accessed, compared, and analyzed to connect the dots of development and can be used for evidence-based policy and decision-making, development programming, research, and monitoring and evaluation.

Nepal in Data is the starting point of a journey to make data and statistics more available and accessible for everyone in Nepal. Data in itself is raw and needs be analyzed in order to have meaning. The Nepal in Data team will analyze data and convert it into easy to understand statistics that interpret and summarize the meaning of data, which will be made available through the portal.

In order for data and statistics to become truly accessible, the Nepal in Data team will enhance data literacy by building capacity to use and analyze data and statistics, developing infographics and working with stakeholders to address specific data and statistical needs so that they can understand and use data and statistics in meaningful ways in their work and lives.

परिचय

नेपाल इन डाटा सोसियल इनोभेसन हबको रूपमा काम गरिरहेको संस्था विकास उद्यमीद्वारा सञ्चालित खुला तथ्याङ्क पोर्टल हो । पोर्टलले नेपालमा बि.सं. २००७ देखि हालसम्म सरकारले उपलब्ध गराएका तथ्याङ्कहरूलाई आम सर्वसाधारणको सहज पहुँचमा पुर्याउने मुख्य उद्देश्य लिएको छ । यसमा प्रयोगकर्ताले तथ्याङ्कहरू हेर्न, तुलना गर्न र आवश्यकता अनुसार विभिन्न स्वरूपमा प्रयोग गर्न सक्नेछन् ।

वि.सं. २००७ मा आएको प्रजातन्त्र र त्यसपछिका विभिन्न परिवर्तनहरू संगालेर नेपालले एक प्रजातान्त्रिक मुलुकका रूपमा छुट्टै इतिहास बनाएको छ । तर त्यसका बावजुद पनि मुलुक अझै विकासका चुनौतीहरू जस्तै गरिबी, सुशासन, आर्थिक विकास, स्वच्छ वातावरण, न्यायमाथि पहुँच र लैङ्गिक तथा सामाजिक समावेशीता जस्ता समस्याहरूसँग जुधिरहेको अवस्था छ। हालसम्म भएका विकासका सबै उपलब्धिको तथ्याङ्क राख्नु सजिलो काम होइन । तथ्याङ्क उपलब्ध छन् र उपलब्ध तथ्यांकहरू पनि सर्वसाधारणहरूको सहज पहुँचमा छैनन् । भएका तथ्याङ्कहरू पनि सरल तरिकाले बुझ्न र प्रयोग गर्न नसकिने अवस्थामा रहेका छन् । छरिएर रहेका त्यस्ता तथ्याङ्कलाई एकै ठाँउमा राख्ने कुनै केन्द्रीकृत संयन्त्र छैन । छरिएर रहेका त्यस्ता विभिन्न क्षेत्रका तथ्याङ्कहरूलाई सहज रूपमा एकैपटक¸ एकैठाउँमा प्राप्त गर्न सकिने स्वरूपमा ल्याउनु नै नेपाल इन डाटाको अभीष्ट हो । यसले तथ्यसम्मत नीति तथा योजना निर्माण, निर्णय निर्माण, अध्ययन-अनुसन्धान, अनुगमन तथा मूल्याङ्कन आदि विभिन्न प्रयोजनका लागि तथ्याङ्क उपलब्ध गराएर सहयोग गर्छ ।

नेपालमा उपलब्ध तथ्याङ्कहरु सबै नागरिकका लागि सहज र सुलभ तवरबाट उपलब्ध गराउने वृहत् यात्राको पहिलो पाइला मात्र हो। तथ्याङ्क सार्वजनिक हुनु आफैँमा सम्पूर्ण कार्य हैन; यो सफल त्यतिबेला मात्र हुन्छ जब तथ्याङ्कलाई प्रयोगमा ल्याउनको लागि प्रशोधन र विभिन्न तरिकाबाट विश्लेषण गरिन्छ। यस टिमले उपलब्ध तथ्याङ्कहरुको प्रशोधन र विश्लेषण दुबै गरी वेबसाइटको माध्यमबाट सबैको पहुँचमा पुर्याउँछ।

तथ्यांङ्कमा सबैको सहज पहुँच निर्माण गर्नेमा मात्र सीमित नभई टिमले तथ्याङ्क साक्षरता बढाउनको लागि पनि विभिन्न कार्य गर्छ। तथ्याङ्कमा आधारित भएर इन्फोग्राफिक्स निर्माण गर्ने तथा सरोकारवालासँगको सहकार्यबाट तथ्याङ्कको बारेमा जानकारी दिँदै विकासका आयाममा जानकारी दिने कार्य गर्छ। वेबसाइटमा उपलब्ध सामाग्रीको उच्चतम प्रयोग तथा तथ्याङ्क आवश्यक पर्नेले विभिन्न प्रयोजनको लागि प्रयोग गर्न सहज बनाउने उद्देश्यका साथ विभिन्न सचेतना कार्यक्रमहरु पनि यसले गर्दछ।
